Without scouts, we die

--

I do not like this image, totally “has-been déjà vu”, but ok, it says what it has to…

In a beehive, the foraging bees have codes, a vocabulary, to explain to the others where are the rich & open flowers. So the others can go there, and come back with pollen for their honey.

BUT. 20% of the bees DO NOT follow the instructions. Why ? Because if ALL the bees go ONLY there, and when the stock is finished, empty, the WHOLE BEEHIVE DIES. Therefore, they need some “random bees”, scouts, to explore continuously to look for new opportunities of flowers getting prepared to offer their pollen. They are… hm… OUTLAWS.

Now… Who are our outlaws, of our economy and society ? Who explores new opportunities ? Inside companies… little or none (they concentrate on their has-been core business). Hm, risky hè ? …. Startups ? Maybe, if they would be OK to sell their company to larger companies. People in the margin, in grey or black zones? Abroad, in spaces invisible to the western eye? Maffias? Hackers? …

Guess what: WE HAVE NEVER SEEN SUCH AMPLITUDE OF CHANGES IN HISTORY. Companies, investors, SHOULD invest substantially into new opportunities, like more than in any other time in history. To survive, to reap benefits of the colossal shocks, shifts, wars, new mega-challenges to solve with credible business solutions (= mega business opportunities). If not, well, they will die, like the beehives without scouts. New entrants will take the opportunities away from them.

Boum. Story over.

“We will see more change in the next decade than in the last 80 years”. (quoting John Elkington)
