Are we f.cked ?
Around 45% of the western population suffers from chronicle diseases, costing over 75% of global health care costs.
Over 8% of the western population suffers from different kind of addictions (tobacco, drugs, alcohol, medication).
Close to 25% of the western population suffers from different kind of mental, emotional disorders like stress, anxiety, burnout, depression.
Still around 10% of the western population is jobless or in long term absenteism…
If we have to believe those figures, our demography is ill, old, tired, full of ego, over-endebted, untrained, underskilled. Flatlined.
Most companies and governments do not have contigency plans and systemic risk assessments. But… again, if we have to believe the SDG’s, we should re-invent most industries and businesses. Nothing massive is happening for the moment, at all. This is bad news.
We are heading multiple systemic shocks, on short term, whether we like it or not:
- Energy blackouts
- Massive hacks and/or internet failure
- Social unrest combined with political failure
- Housing crisis
- Massive industries failing and lack of talent
- Food and/or water disruptions
- Toxic and/or nuclear pollution events
- Massive migrations
- Climate cataclysms
- …
We know now they will happen . We just don’t have exact dates yet.
These are not “Black Swans” (unexpected), but “Grey Rhinos” (massive impact, you can see them coming from far away).
We also know, in light of those figures of the population, that lots of people will not survive those occurences. We are very, very unprepared. What can we realistically do with such a degenerated population, managed by politiocs who do not have the slightest clue about those fundamentals, let alone, solutions ?
What do we wait for, actually, to get prepared, create resilience ?
Some people are really acting, with lots of courage, too often lonely and moqued. But they are fantastic and inspired. We are mapping them and coalizing them to share their best practices with Club of Brussels / Extrapreneurs.
Thanks for your advice. Please send me your ideas in comment.
(On our side, we have some ideas in mind and projects ready to start)
